Over the holiday season it is easy to go slightly off track with your fitness regime. It is also really easy regain your fitness motivation. Time to say goodbye to the excuses and get the lifestyle you want for 2020 and beyond! I have compiled a list of my favourite fitness motivation tips which have got me ready to chase my goals and get back on track.
I will admit somewhere towards the end of last year I started losing my fitness motivation. I wasn’t enjoying the gym as much and life just felt busy which is not very like me at all! Add in almost two weeks away in South Australia with my extended family over Christmas and New Years. Now don’t get wrong me whilst it was lovely to relax, eat, sip local wines with endless beach days, my fitness routine pretty much non existent except for walking! This break actually reignited my lost motivation and got me excited to get back home and start up a fresh routine.
My motivation is back! Week two back in the gym and it certainly feels good to be back!
10 Tips To Get Your Fitness Motivation Back
1. New workout clothes or sneakers
Sorry I had to start with this one! New activewear always makes you want to get out there and move your body right? Fresh sneakers certainly make me want to hit the pavement straight away! Bonus you maybe you were gifted some for Christmas.
2. Write down goals
All your fitness and health goals get them written down on paper. One step better if you or are creating a vision board for 2020 have your fitness and health goals on there! Choose goals which are achievable within the time frame you are setting yourself. Keep them somewhere where you will see them every single day.
3. Sign up to a fitness challenge
With a fresh new year brings fitness challenges galore! Maybe your local gym has one or maybe you have seen one on social media! Many challenges have specific start off dates and some challenges are ebooks you can start anytime. Do your research before you jump straight in to one. Don’t just do a challenge because “so and so” is. Do what feels right for you.
Cant get to the gym there are plenty of home based challenges around. Think it costs too much? Well maybe cut your daily coffee, weekly brunch, a monthly subscription, weekend Uber Eats or beauty treatments to name a few. Don’t have time? Wakeup earlier, limit the nightly tv marathon sessions and I am sure you will have more time!
My best tip choose a challenge that will work with you after the challenge finishes so you are not left wondering whats next and undo all the hard work!
(What challenge am I currently doing? I am in week two of A-Train Fitness 18 Week Challenge. One off purchase ebook which you can start whenever. I also signed up to do 28 By Sam Wood 8 Week Challenge.
A-Train is the program I am following in the gym four times per week. 28 By Sam Wood workouts I complete at home. As the 28 By Sam Wood are a 28minute workout I do two sessions back to back. One rest day per week! Nutrition I am counting my macros and following 28 By Sam Wood recipes.)
4. Do something you love
Fitness should be fun and not feel like a chore. Do the fitness activity you love. Maybe its Netball or Dancing or Tennis or something more relaxing and core focused like Pilates.
5. Overhaul the pantry and fridge
Start off with a freshly organised fridge and pantry. Minimise the packaged food. Fill your pantry/fridge full of great basics, remove temptations or stash them up on the highest shelf at the back! Some of my pantry essentials include oats, basmati rice, various flours, protein pasta, legumes, spices, nuts, tin tomatoes, corn thins, crispbread and tuna to name a few.
Clean the fridge, then with your shopping list head to your local farmers market. Grab all your required fresh produce and wash/prep it all neatly in the fridge, making it easy to reach for a healthy snack.
6. Create a sticker chart
Yep not just for the kids, parents may know this technique all to well! Create a fitness goal sticker chart. A fun way to celebrate progress along the way. Print and add progress photos to get the motivation even higher! Place it somewhere where you will see it daily. Along the way when you reach goals reward yourself maybe it will be a new pair of leggings or relaxing massage.
7. Get outdoors
Make the most of summer, light mornings and evenings and take your workout outdoors. Get out there, get active, run with the kids, climb the playground with the kids.
8. Tunes
Create a new playlist or three to get you pumped up through the toughest of workouts!
9. Get Pinning
Hands up who uses Pinterest? Pinterest is a favourite platform of mine. If I need meal inspiration I head straight to Pinterest. You can find anything you need from vegan recipes, meal prep ideas, bento box ideas, healthy kids meals, all the way to the prettiest of smoothie bowls. Head over to Pinterest and create a recipe collection board to get you feeling inspired in the kitchen.
10. Be Inspired
And lastly on the topic of social media, give your Instagram following a refresh. Unfollow the accounts who no longer inspire you and follow the accounts which do. Instagram is another way of finding inspiring recipes, people who will motivate you, inspiring quotes, workout ideas and activewear trends!
If you are participating in a challenge, Instagram and Facebook are a great way of connecting with people who are also taking part in the challenge. Keep each other motivated, meet-up for workouts, share your progress and recipes.
