Hello 2020! To kick off my first blog post of 2020 I thought I would take a look back and share my healthy habits of 2019. Health and wellness was a huge focus and I look forward to seeing where this leads in 2020!
2019 a year for me personally was a year of growth, self care and educating myself on lifestyle habits. A year I challenged my body in a whole new way! I finally did something I had been wanting to do for years, entering my first fitness competition. If you follow on instagram you would have seen my journey to the stage! A huge sense of achievement, it is pretty amazing what the mind and body can achieve.
Will I compete again in 2020? I do want to but it certainly wont be in the first half of the year. Who knows, maybe not even till 2021! I want to be in 110% the right mindset with no distractions. To just enjoy fitness training for awhile. Eat nourishing food and not be completely restricted. To revisit my love of pilates. With the girls starting first year of school and kinder my focus is getting settled into a new routine. Plus the addition of some new business/study projects myself which I want to solely focus on.
Looking back reading my Healthy Habits post for 2018 I can only see how much my lifestyle has changed and improved. And those five healthy habits introduced back in 2018 stayed throughout 2019!
What are my health and wellness goals in 2020?
To read more, learn more and study nutrition.
Bring pilates back into my weekly exercise.
Mindset and journaling.
Enjoy Fitness training

5 Healthy Habits of 2019
1. Joined the Gym
One of the very first steps took in 2019 was joining a local gym. It had been years since I had stepped back into a gym. I had always been your more workout outdoors kinda person and the weekly PT session. But with training for a fitness competition I needed to get myself to a gym to up my training.
The best thing I have done. I got stronger, I got “me-time”, my body changed, my mindset changed, I listened to more podcasts and I fell in love with being back in the gym! The gym I attend also runs a fantastic gym creche program which Scarlett has absolutely enjoyed!
Gym days are now my happy days. One whole hour of me-time. And on that note ladies don’t be scared of lifting weights, they change the body in the most incredible way!
2. Nutrition Tracking
Honestly I cant remember the last time I ever tracked nutrition. Years and years ago when the trendy thing to do was to only eat 1200 calories a day!!! Pretty sure I gave up after a few days. Moving on to the start of the year counting macros seemed like some huge number jigsaw puzzle. But once you get the hang of it, it does become easier!
Training for a fitness competition I had to track my macros. And want to change your body compostition you need to track. Personally I found The Bod a great place to start on learning about macros. The best advice I can give is be careful what you read on social media and who it is from. There is so much misleading information and products out there.
I find the whole nutrition aspect really fascinating and do want to learn more. Tracking has certainly opened my eyes to just how much calories you may or may not be consuming.
The month of December I had the whole month of tracking off. It has been great to have a break and enjoy time away with the family. Bring on getting back on track.
3. 5am wakeups
Five am wakeups I started in the later half of the year. It has been a huge changer. If you have not read The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod I highly recommend you do! Whilst five am wakeups may not be for everyone I am sure there is bits and pieces we can all take away from Hal Elrod’s books. Waking up just one extra hour everyday you will realise just how much more you can fit into your day and how much your mood changes for the better.
Waking up at five am before my kids puts me in the right frame of mind for the day. I usually get one whole hour to set myself up for the day. What do I do during that time? Weather depending I will walk the dog, gratitude/goal setting in The Routine, go through my to-do list, plan out the day, sip on BeforeYouSpeak coffee and read.
My goal to add into this little routine in 2020 is some morning yoga and meditation.
4. Mindset
Work in progress! I had no choice but to work on my mindset this year. When it comes to prepping for fitness competition you need a good mindset, you need will power and dedication. But mindset was not just for fitness competition but everything life may throw at you in general. I can openly say we have had a lot thrown at us in the past two years which has taken a strong mindset, positivity and plenty of gratitude.
2020 I plan on working on this further, always something to learn!
5. Reading
I have always loved reading but it became something I never made enough time for. Early on in the year I finally joined our local library and my love of reading returned. I love exploring the library shelves for new reads and the girls equally enjoy spending time browsing books.
