You’ve got mail! Hands up who loves mail? Not the email/inbox type but the post box type! And I am not talking about bills, I am talking Christmas cards. Does anyone even still set aside time to write a Christmas card?
In todays society we are so caught up in technology. For many of us it is so much easier to pick up our phones and send a text message or open the laptop and send an email. We get so caught up in the Christmas hype of purchasing lavish gifts rather then remembering sometimes it the littlest things that mean the most. Taking the time to write a Christmas card can double as gift, particularly when you add your children’s art skills or a some homemade Christmas treats.
Today on the blog I am sharing 5 reasons why I love to send and receive Christmas cards. I hope you feel inspired and in the season of giving, why not give some gratitude in the form of a personalised handwritten card.
FIVE REASONS TO WRITE A CHRISTMAS CARD
IT IS MORE PERSONAL
I am a sentimental person and I absolutely love receiving cards. There is something much more personal and meaningful in receiving a handwritten card wether it be Christmas, Birthday or special occasion. I will openly admit I have kept a majority of the cards I have received (particularly ones from elderly relatives) and cards to the girls!
By taking the time to write a Christmas card you are showing the person you truly care. It is a great way of strengthening relationships and sharing thoughts in words.
A LITTLE D.I.Y
Get a little DIY happening this Christmas. Don’t forget to get the kids involved. Get your little fam bam together for a fun family Christmas snap. Use that photo to design your own unique cards! It could become a new tradition!
Another idea is to give your kids an assortment of Christmas cards to decorate for family members. Let them get messy on the inside of the card with paint, stamps, pasting, glitter etc. This makes a special keepsake particularly for the Grandparents. My girls had so much fun getting messy with the paint and I cant wait to give these to our family!
KEEP IN TOUCH
For those of us who have family/friends interstate writing/posting cards is a great way of keeping touch. Sending a Christmas/holiday card is great way to elaborate on the highlights of the year that was, praising achievements and passing on well wishes for the New Year.
And don’t forget to pop in the Santa photos!
PUT SMILE ON SOMEONES FACE
To receive a handwritten personalised card is truly heart warming. And just imagine the smile you will put on someones face when they open that envelope.
Hallmark Australia recently conducted a study by Omnipoll. Findings showed that 85% of Australians agree a personalised handwritten message in a card made them feel special! So what are you waiting for, get out there purchase some cards (personality matched), write your message and put smile on someones face! For someone who is not having the greatest day, you could truly make their day along with making them feel really special and loved.
THAT AUTHENTIC FEELING
Step aside from our social media saturated world and get back to basics. Something I want to teach my children is to know the importance of sending cards and writing letters. Those pieces of card/paper can last forever (if we treasure them) where as a social media message can easily disappear at the click of a button. Along with disappearing at the click of a button they can become forgotten in our inboxes, where as a card can displayed in your home. A simple little card could bring the happiest of Christmas cheer!
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
