If you follow on Instagram you see us spending a lot of our days at a playground. And that we certainly do! I take the girls pretty much every single day to a playground. Wether it’s to the local near home or to various of our favourite playgrounds around Melbourne. Today I thought I would finally share with you our Top 3 Melbourne Playgrounds. We do live on the north/east side of town so the playgrounds I have featured are all on this side.
We are absolutely spoilt with the choice of playgrounds they are definitely some amazing ones around. When it comes to picking our favourite playgrounds I select by if they are age appropriate for both my girls, good coffee nearby and plenty of shade. I do like walking so when we visit a playground I do tend to park far and walk there! It gets my exercise in for the day. And the bonus if the kids fall asleep in the pram I stop at a cafe for a coffee/lunch in peace!
CLYDE JONES RESERVE
Situated on the corner of Victoria St and Clarendon St in Thornbury. We always love visiting this park. There is plenty of shade, grassy areas for a picnic and partly fenced. A visit to this playground always guarantees a visit to Jerry Joy’s the best cafe! So kid friendly (I will be blogging about our fav kid friendly cafes another day!) Once you have grabbed coffee, babycino, gingerbread cookie and a raw slice its time to hit the playground.
Two different play structures one for the little ones and for the bigger kids. Aria does occasionally wanderer to the bigger play structure, with a big slide but generally stays around Scarlett. The green car is a huge hit for Aria usually the first thing she runs too! And no playground is complete without swings. These ones get the extra tick of approval as they are super low to the ground. Anyone else hate when you go to a park and swing is so high off the ground?
What sets this Melbourne playground apart from any other playground is the fact there is a huge shade cover above. Even on a warm sunny day the kids can still play on the playground without the equipment being too hot. This is actually the playground which featured on our vlog for A Day in The Life (you can check it out here).
Situated in the picturesque Rathdowne Village on Rathdowne St, I am in love with this street! Nothing more beautiful than a stunning tree lined street and all the beautiful buildings and terrace houses. We usually only head here if I need to visit The Lab.
For coffee we stop by Cafe BÜ. SO cute and so insta photo worthy located at Canning and Pigdon St intersection. We have never stopped by for lunch but I do plan on doing so soon! If you want some yummy fresh bread pop by Kylie’s Slow Dough. For fresh flowers there is a little fruit and veg store who I always purchase some from not far down from La Porchetta.
With so many huge shady trees on a sunny day and grassy areas to sit, it is well worth packing a picnic lunch. There are also plenty of pigeons hanging around for a bit bird watching (or chasing as Scarlett prefers!!)
With various play structures Curtain Square is suitable for kids of all ages even the littlest toddlers like Scarlett
Ever since we visited Edinburgh Gardens with my brother and his partner it has been one of our absolute places to go! It is huge, it is spacious, there is the occasional food truck in the evening, massive playground, stunning in Autumn and so peaceful.
To show you around this playground I vlogged our day out.
I tend to always park in around Westgarth and walk to Edinburgh Gardens. Along the way we stop in at Bakers Delight to grab some cheese + bacon rolls, cheese + vegemite rolls and the occasional treat. Then we head to Mitte Cafe for our coffee/babycino’s. This is also another great cafe for kids! Whilst inside it is quite small but on a nice day it is beautiful to sit outside. Then it’s onto Edinburgh Gardens.
The playground at Edinburgh Gardens is quite large and there is a huge variety for the kids. With various slides, swings, climbing structures, chalk boards, see-saw, spinning flower thing and so much more. Under the huge leafy trees there are some picnic tables. What I love is this playground is fully fenced in so your kids cant escape (unless someone leaves the gate open!)
Unfortunately on this day my kids did not fall asleep till we got back to the car. They have though on occasions before fallen asleep in the pram. On the occasion this does happen I will usually pop by Mitte or Mixed Business for a peaceful lunch!
