One of the most common questions I seem to get asked of late is, why I started blogging? Why a lifestyle blog? Why beauty? Let me tell you I certainly did not wake one morning and say “oh hey I think I may start a lifestyle blog today. Actually a beauty and lifestyle blog to be precise”.
Back in 2013 right after our wedding I first dabbled in blogging. I was really into the healthy foods/raw foods and I guess after months of planning a wedding/honeymoon, I needed something to fill my spare time again. I had my personal Instagram account but also a second account I started sharing my food creations on. In short space of time I reached over 1k followers which I thought for just a little hobby was pretty good! I even had a wordpress site where I shared some of my favourite recipes! Anyway, not long after I fell pregnant and the excitement of the baby kicked in! My passion for my little hobby disappeared as I was too busy planning for the baby!
My personal Instagram account was originally just a fun little space where I would share outfit selfies, weekend snaps, food pics, wedding/honeymoon and our dog! I openly admit I have since deleted a lot of those pics! We all know how bad the phone cameras were and the insta filters haha!
Around when Aria was 4 months old was when I became (no offence to anyone who does the following) one those “mums” that continuously posted pics of their baby (total cringe!). I was suddenly aware of the “baby repping” a lot of small instagram businesses ran. Aria was involved in quite a few. At the time it was fun and kept me busy as a stay-at-home-mum. Over time I did start to feel guilty for all the images I was putting out there of my baby! It hit me about the amount of images I was posting of my baby on social media, even though the photos I would describe them “advertisement” or “staged” style pics, plus a few personal pics. And yes while I have posted many pics of Scarlett no where near as many as Aria! (I have actually deleted a lot!!)
My plan for 2017 on Instagram was to stop posting so many pics of my girls. They didn’t sign up for social media, I did. I wanted to get my Instagram back where I started it from, me! Me sharing images of things I’m passionate about beauty, hair, fashion, food and Melbourne life. So slowly slowly I have been changing the direction of my Instagram. However never did I imagine I would have a beauty and lifestyle blog up and running!
DANIELLE VELLA : BEAUTY + LIFESTYLE BLOG
Whilst the thought of a blog throughout the year had crossed my mind many times, I never thought of actually making it happen! I guess you could say I kind of just fell into this position. I never planned for where I have got today to happen, but I am so grateful to have reached thus far. It was all just a little bit of fun and my little escape from mum life.
Honestly, I felt like a deer in headlights when I suddenly found myself in the world of social media influencing and blogging! I had read numerous articles and learnt a bit from others but I was still pretty clueless. Then I meet the most amazing social media guru Serena O’Brien (Sova Social owner). From Serena I have learnt so much! It was actually Serena who encouraged me to start a blog! A goal we set for me to achieve in 2018 however I achieved in 2017! From there I have taken all her advice and guidance on board.
For me, as mentioned above my beauty and lifestyle blog is like my escape from mum life. The blog and my social media is where I share my love of products, fashion, life around Melbourne, little bits of motherhood plus more. And although my social media may not be set on private I do like to keep our private life private. Although you do see the occasional glimpses of our private life in insta-stories.
One of the first questions I asked Serena when the word “blog” came up is, “what would I write about? How I am supposed to write a thousand word piece?”. It was not till I noted down the next twelve months of my life that I realised wow there actually is a lot of content ideas there! I also realised I did not have to write a thousand word piece every single time! Gosh I struggle some days to write a caption on Instagram, personally when I scroll insta I’m all about the visual. And so the blog website came to life at the end of July 2017.
THE FUTURE OF DV BEAUTY + LIFESTYLE BLOG
Whilst I am only just four months into the blogging world I still have so much to learn. It really is just the beginning still. I am forever reading articles/tips from other bloggers and social savvy tech people. There is always so much to learn! As a blogger you do absolutely everything. You are the writer, photographer, editor, researcher, planner, social media manager, email checker and so much more! A little hobby that I am thoroughly enjoying.
After stepping completely out of my comfort zone with a little vlogging (a day in the life here) this is something I want to start to create more of. It is a lot of fun but there are so many little tips and tricks I need to learn! So stay tuned for more of this in 2018!
With so many goals set to achieve for 2018 and beyond, I cant wait to reach them all. There will be more beauty, more fashion, more Melbourne life, new home, possibly travel and a touch of motherhood. But just don’t call me a “mummy blogger”
Thank you all for coming on this journey with me!
